The Tummelplatz is a digital stamp point of the "Holiday Region Bavarian Forest National Park - Hiking Badge" in the SummitLynx app.

The playground was first mentioned in a document in 1809, but it is probably around 200 years older. This is where the forest bulls from Schönbrunn roamed about. That is, they were herded together in this spot in the evening while they grazed in the surrounding forests during the day. The shepherds were supplied with provisions on the playground and the farmers could inspect their cattle. In 1834, the Bavarian state bought the Schönbrunn glassworks estate, so that the grazing rights in the surrounding forests expired. Until 1956 the Schachten itself was still grazed. Around 1844 the first modest service hut was built on the Tummelplatz, which burned down in 1858 and was renovated in 1860. In the center of the Tummelplatz is the "Forstdiensthütte Tummelplatz", which was built in 1860. Today it is a research outstation of the National Park Administration of the Bavarian Forest. The building has a photovoltaic island system and is therefore energetically self-sufficient. The access road "Tummelplatzstraße" leads to the hut.
