With a surface area of 89.2 hectares, the Eternal Sea is Germany's largest raised bog lake. The boardwalk around the nature reserve is currently closed. Only the path to the sea is open and can be reached from the parking lot in just a few minutes. There is a small platform and a bench.

A beautiful route through the forest and the moor.

KÖNIGSKEIL ○ After the 1765 edict of reclamation, the Prussian king took possession of wasteland, heaths and moors for himself and leased them to colonists. Disputes over the land that had previously been used jointly were inevitable. The Norder Fehngesellschaft also fought with the state for 80 years over land that had been promised to them in the leasehold contract. When an agreement was reached in 1875, the company received the so-called "Königskeil" and an enlarged area nearby as compensation. -Information board on site-

The lake got its name from its special shape. The municipal area protrudes in a wedge shape to the west. The "royal" part of the name indicates that it was former royal land. Peat extraction was carried out on the site until 2013.

A great area. On our last visit, however, the circular route was closed. The view of the Eternal Sea was still great.

Great, idyllically located, albeit artificially created, lake. Ideal for a break.
