The castle complex is one of the oldest in East Frisia. The ramparts, the outer bailey and the moat have been preserved. The union of Harlingerland with East Frisia was signed here in 1660. Today you can stay overnight in holiday apartments here.

Berum Castle is a moated castle and is located in the district of the same name (Burgstraße 1) in the East Frisian municipality of Hage in the Aurich district in Lower Saxony. It is one of the most important sites of East Frisian history.
