"On the dream path Pellenzer Seepfad in the Eifel, the wall of ash that the Laacher See volcano left behind 13,000 years ago impressively rises up before the hiker. The hiking tour continues through dense mixed forest to the Krufter Waldsee and then, along a rocky niche, up to the "Teufelskanzel" rocky outcrop. It goes down to the Laacher See through a beautiful beech forest. Past bubbling "mofettes", the path leads back uphill to the Ahrefeld refuge. On the following kilometers, hikers enjoy wonderful views of the Pellenz up to the peaks of the Siebengebirge." https://www.eifel.info/wandern/wanderwege/a-traumpfade-pellenzer-seepfad

https://www.eifel.info/wandern/wanderwege/a-traumpfade-pellenzer-seepfad "Wide views and the impressive Laacher See, over which you can see the Maria Laach monastery, are a delight on this trail. The "alpine" ascent to the Krufter Ofen is physically demanding, but the reward is a great view. Sure-footedness is required here, as there is an increased risk of slipping, especially when wet. An alternative route has been designated to avoid this area." https://www.traumpfade.info/pfad/traumpfad/pellenzer-seepfad/ << Pellenzer Seepfad >> "Unique insights into the volcanic past at Eppelsberg, live volcanism at Laacher See with a view of the Maria Laach monastery, magnificent views of the Krufter Waldsee and wonderful views of the Pellenz." Description of the dream path Pellenzer Seepfad: "The tour begins at the car park at the Roman tumulus in Nickenich. The path first circles an idyllic valley before a short climb leads past the impressive ash wall (Black Wall) left by the Laacher See volcano 13,000 years ago. The location also impresses with its wide view of Nickenich. After a short climb, it is worth taking a detour to rest at the Hermann hut with a great panoramic view. The path then goes slightly downhill and leads to the edge of the open-cast mine on the Eppelsberg. After a passage through a mixed forest, you reach the rest area at the Krufter Waldsee. The summit assault begins on moderately rising forest paths, but shortly before the rock it goes steeply up, along an impressive rock niche, to the Teufelskanzel rock ledge with a fabulous view towards Kruft and Neuwieder Becken. A comfortable high-altitude path leads to the "Am Krufter Ofen" shelter, then it continues in serpentines down through a mighty beech forest. The path leads across open fields to Lake Laach and gives you your first glimpse of Maria Laach Monastery. Along the nearby shore, it is worth taking a detour to the lake shore to admire the so-called Moffettes. The path soon turns right and climbs steeply. Then comfortable forest paths and the crossing of the L 116 lead through a mixed forest to the Celtic tree circle. The last section of the route is characterized by recurring magnificent views of the Siebengebirge and the Pellenz. Along the edge of the forest, the path curves around the sports field and back to the Roman tomb."

This oversized seating area is named after the nickname of a legendary figure who has lived in the Giant Mountains for a number of centuries, which are partly in Silesia and partly in Bohemia. Over time, thanks to numerous stories, it has become well-known far beyond the region. According to these ancient legends or myths, however, the mountain spirit reacts very sensitively when someone calls him by this name, which is given here in the highlight. The storyteller Otfried Preußler (born in 1923 in Reichenberg, Bohemia), who is best known for his children's books, put it this way: "In its entirety, the [Giant] Mountains have always had their own master, ... and this was a master of a special kind, not comparable to emperors and kings: he would like to ask that this be forbidden!" Even today, we do not even come close to knowing the true nature of this Giant Mountains gentleman, nor do we know his real name, but he is generally referred to by his nickname or surname, which the esteemed reader should beware of using if he ever finds himself in the Giant Mountains. Indeed, many a person who has called him by his nickname is said to have had a bad experience - as the aforementioned man is a strict gentleman, quick to throw punishing thunderstorms, downpours out of the blue, storms and cold and evil fogs over the path of the mocking bird." (Otfried Preußler in "The Flight to Egypt. Royal Bohemian Part")

More than half of the way gravel road. Also gladly plowed through by commercial vehicles. The information boards are old-fashioned and tailored to Ü60. And certainly not to children. Unfortunately, the sometimes beautiful passages do not outweigh this.
