The highest elevation in the western Taunus Mountains. The old postal road to Wiesbaden passes through here.

In the Eibach valley, on the terraces on the other side of the slope, there was the settlement of Mackenberg, which had been abandoned before the Thirty Years' War. In 1473, Mackenberg was still referred to as a village with its own mayor. In 1513, there was only one Hubengericht (Hube = hamlet) and the Bleidenstadt monastery gave the tithes to the von Schönborn family as a fief. In 1577, the Mackenberg district was divided (2/3 to Born). In the dispute over the tithes between Hesse-Rheinfels (because of the third of Adolfseck) and the monastery, the Bleidenstadt residents submitted a copy of a border description dated April 29, 1473.

The district boundaries of Schönborn and Hahnstätten meet on the Ergenstein. There used to be a lookout point here, but it is now overgrown. The Hahnstätter Heimat- und Verschönerungsverein has erected a shelter at this spot. Immediately next to the hut, a path leads to the boundary stone, which is about 150 meters away. The second highest mountain in the western Hintertaunus is crowned by a summit cross. Greetings can be left in the summit book. There is also a TP stone right next to the cross.
