Wenings used to be a fortress town in Ysenburg and was the summer residence of the Counts of Isenburg and Birstein for centuries. Moritzstein Castle, which was part of the city fortifications, came into the possession of the then independent city of Wenings at the beginning of the last century. On the ground floor of the building is the local history museum with a permanent exhibition on rural living and working in previous centuries as well as information on the city's history. During guided tours, which can be booked through the Gedern tourist office, you can get to know the museum, the historic coat of arms hall on the first floor and the history of the town of Wenings.

The castle in the beautiful castle park is simply great. You can sleep well here in the hotel.

Moritzstein Castle used to be the main part of the Isenburg fortress town and for centuries the summer residence of the Counts of Isenburg-Birstein. It was built in the 18th century by Count Moritz von Ysenburg and Birstein. At that time it was built over the entire length of today's Amthofstraße and was called Moritzstein Castle. In 1811 the partly dilapidated castle was sold to several farming families. The buildings were demolished and new courtyards were built in their place. The coat of arms of the former main portal of the castle is still preserved and walled into the cellar wall of the Böck house. Only the Burgmannenhaus, which today is briefly called the "Moritzstein" or "Burg Moritzstein", remained intact. All that remains of the actual castle is the gatehouse and a wall (integrated into a stable building).
