Late (also spate) is a little-known name that was given by early miners for minerals that split well and lack a metallic sheen. In contrast to many metallic ores, late rocks usually break along parallel planes and thereby form smooth surfaces that reflect light well. Fluorspar sometimes breaks so perfectly that the fission products can be confused with naturally grown crystals. Barite is barium sulfate, which is required, for example, for the production of glass and ceramics, but also for the coating of welding electrodes or for high-performance brake pads.

The “Weiße Hohle” forest car park is located on Sinsheimer Straße, on the outskirts of Nußloch, directly at the entrance to the “Weiße Hohle”. A sign with hiking trails in the region is also on site.
