The Holmer Sandberge are located in the Pinneberg district in Schleswig-Holstein between the municipalities of Appen (Appen-Etz district), Holm and the town of Wedel. The Buttermoor / Butterbargsmoor is the remainder of a former extensive raised bog on the edge of the Klövensteen in the area of the municipalities of Holm and the town of Wedel in the Pinneberg district. After rewetting, peat moss and other typical bog species spread again. Heath grows in somewhat drier areas. In order to preserve the open areas, they are grazed by sheep and goats and the trees are pushed back (the so-called "decussing"). Several paths cross the nature reserve and allow exciting insights into the moor landscape. With a little luck you can spot grass snakes and adders along the way. Cranes have been breeding in the moor since 2012. Information boards explain the special features of the area.
