Fishing and swimming in the "Hohenbökener Moor" Because the old B 212 between Bookholzberg and the Dreimädelhaus was built on boggy ground and had completely warped, it was decided to rebuild it right next to it on a more reliable sand substructure. Not far away, a mixture of sand and water was discovered under Adolf Sieling's pastures, over which there was still a four meter thick layer of moor. It had to be removed, then the mixture could be pumped to the construction site using a suction excavator. The excess water was immediately channeled back into the resulting lake. The municipality's dismantling plan shows that the lake was planned to be used as a bathing lake from the start; The company that carried out the dismantling was obliged to leave a "pleasing view" and a sandy beach at the end. This created a lake with a surface area of around 5.5 hectares and a depth of up to 17 meters with a bathing beach on the east side. How difficult it is to work with heavy equipment on boggy ground was shown when a component of the suction dredger slipped off a pallet and threatened to sink into the bog. Only a heavy armored recovery vehicle from the Bundeswehr managed to bring everything back to safety. Unfortunately, as soon as the lake was finished, it was used several times to "dispose of" stolen vehicles, which then had to be laboriously recovered by riot police divers. Only a solid steel gate at the entrance ended this hustle and bustle. Bathing in the quarry pond As soon as the new lake was there, it was almost stormed by bathers, although there was initially no infrastructure - just the pure lake, nothing else. Only since toilets, changing rooms and the DLRG came here in the summer of 1976 can one speak of a public bathing lake that makes bathing possible for free. Today the Hohenbökener See is a refuge for animals that depend on water. It is used by a fishing club as an area - and appreciated by many guests as a clean, attractive bathing lake. But also feathered guests, who depend on a landscape with water areas and protective shore areas, can be observed here, such as the great crested grebe.

I didn't know the Sportparksee Gramke before - lots of beach, swimming and water sports in summer, huge lawns. Even in the cold season you can go for a long walk here and enjoy the view of the lake.
