The royal house at Schachen is located 1866 m above sea level on the Schachen mountain south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Wetterstein Mountains. King Ludwig II of Bavaria had the castle built from 1869 to 1872 according to plans by Georg Dollmann as a post-and-beam structure in the Swiss chalet style made of wood. The Klamm Castle can be seen from afar. Its size and splendor make you curious to explore it. When you finally arrive full of expectation, the disappointment is quite big, since the castle is privately inhabited and therefore cannot be visited. Nevertheless, every way there is worthwhile, especially the circular sun plateau hike
