Super well-paved road with switchbacks, great for cycling and on the bends you often have good views of the mountains and Neuschwanstein Castle.

The ruins offer a spectacular panoramic view of the Allgäu Alps and the surrounding landscape. Very tough but short approach and descent, which requires good fitness, otherwise you have to push your bike on certain sections. Cars also drive on the narrow road, so it gets tight in some places and you have to dismount here. The effort is worth it!

Breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the valley. A truly royal feeling! 😉 From the complex there is a great view of the Vilstal valley below and the peaks of the Tannheimer group.

The view is sensational

The original castle was built in the 13th century and expanded several times. King Ludwig II of Bavaria planned another magnificent castle here, similar to Neuschwanstein, but it never got past the planning stage. The ruins offer a spectacular panoramic view of the Allgäu Alps and the landscape. A challenging journey, but very worthwhile.

The Zirmgrat is certainly the most beautiful route to the Falkenstein castle ruins - the highest castle in Germany at 1277 meters. King Ludwig II even wanted to build another fairytale castle on the site, which offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Allgäu Alps and the Alpine foothills. His father Maximilian I had already passed through here on his journey on what is now the "Maximiliansweg" from Lindau to Berchtesgaden. Very nice castle hotel, with a beautiful wide view
