This gorge was formed by water erosion, with some places reaching 100 meters in height. A jacket is recommended when walking in the gorge. It's possible to have a drink and a bite to eat after the visit (though it's quieter in the morning).

In the Liechtenstein Gorge, oh wonder of nature, the water ripples at breakneck speed – a cold tour. You hike up steps and wooden bridges, and are caressed by the spray, quite uninvited. The rock walls whisper: "Stop, you wet spot!" A rain of drops, a fine layer of dirt. Your shoes sweat, your hair flies, but the laughter remains when bubbles spray. A would-be temperature check at the end: "Water cools down, but courage remains in the gloom." From the echo of the water to the sunshine: an adventure, wet yet so fine.

An absolute MUST: you can't describe it, you have to see it. You can easily cycle to the ticket office. The 12 euro entrance fee is well spent. After the rockslide in 2017, the gorge was closed for a long time. Now everything has been re-secured and sensors are reporting rock movements.

The Liechtenstein Gorge is not only St. Johann's greatest treasure. It is also one of Austria's most important treasures and was awarded second place on October 26, 2022 in the ORF show "9 Places 9 Treasures". Be sure to be in the gorge first thing in the morning before 9:30 a.m. (at least in high season) otherwise you will be waiting forever at the ticket office. Avoid the time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., otherwise you will just be pushed through.

The highlight of the renovated Liechtensteinklamm is the impressive “Helix” staircase, which is a spiral staircase made of Corten steel that extends up to 30 m into the depths, where you can experience breathtaking impressions of the natural spectacle. As part of the renovation, a total of three tunnels, four galleries and 60 rockfall nets with a total length of 1,100 m were built. All structures and safety nets had to be flown into the gorge by helicopter. Around 7,000 minutes of flight and high precision were necessary to transport the building materials, some of which weighed several tons, into the gorge. In addition, there was extensive rock clearance on the rock walls, some of which were overhanging and up to 200 m high.
