Shelter and rest area given. Friends of Nature houses emerged from the Friends of Nature movement, which was founded by socialists in Vienna in 1895. There are more than 700 Friends of Nature houses worldwide, almost 400 of them in Germany. Some are in the middle of nature, by the water, in the forest or in the mountains, similar to Alpine Club huts or youth hostels.
