The small and large cow troughs are not natural ponds, but rather a clay pit from the 18th century. Because this soil does not allow water to pass through, a pond was created that used to provide water for people and especially animals. Since settlers used the forest as pasture, they called the watering hole “cow trough”.

At the idyllically situated St. Agatha bathing lake in the Haidhof district, cooling off and swimming fun are guaranteed on hot summer days. Beautiful lawns invite you to linger. The bathing lake is supervised by the water rescue service on weekends during the season. A large parking lot (fees apply on weekends) is available. Unfortunately, barbecues, camping, and overnight stays are not permitted at St. Agatha bathing lake. Dogs are not allowed from May to September. St. Agatha bathing lake is listed as an EU bathing water, and the Kelheim Health Department monitors its water quality.
