6월 16, 2024, St. Goar Waterfall
After the Wunschwasser waterfall, the route unfortunately does not continue above St. Goar at the moment. The hiking trail to Biebernheim is closed. You have to take the path directly to Rheinfels Castle.

To get to the "entrance" of Kühlen Grund, you first walk 900 m from the B42 / Forstbachstraße intersection on the sidewalk next to Forstbachstraße and then another 350 m without a sidewalk on Forstbachstraße towards Loreley. There is a little more space next to the road on the right-hand side heading out of town - but not much. At weekends or on public holidays, as well as during the season when many tourists drive up to Loreley, you should not necessarily walk there. At the "exit" you come to the K88, which goes up to Patersberg in a serpentine fashion. It is better to walk 50 m down the K88 to the L338, then about 70 m up towards Loreley on the road. There is a path that leads up to the St. Goarshausen - Heide district. From here you have the option of walking back down to St. Goarshausen via Katz Castle, via the "Elchweg", or via the Loreley plateau. In my opinion, this is the only sensible alternative for incorporating the Kühlen Grund into a tour. Sturdy shoes with a good grip are advisable for this section. There are a few wet, rocky areas.

The Reusche Park ends near the St. Goar train station at the so-called Lohbach Gorge. Here, largely unknown, is a unique waterfall. This gorge leads via the hiking trail popularly known as the "Short Path" to Biebernheim.

Great, natural gorge in the Binger Forest with smaller climbs, a waterfall and great views. Adventurous and idyllic - great!

Nice photo motif and I especially liked the water running down the steps.

Beautiful sight of the fire pond and especially the overflow, over which the water ripples down the steps.

The extinguishing pond dams the water of the Frohnwiesbach on the upper slope of the Franzosenkopf, which flows down a stone staircase, merges with the Breitwiesbach just before Oberheimbach and then flows into the Heimbach in the village. A picnic bench is available for a rest by the pond, which is shimmering green with algae. When two hectares of bare land burned on the Franzosenkopf at the beginning of the 1990s, more than 300,000 liters of extinguishing water were needed and they first had to be brought there. Reason enough to create a fire pond. The pond, which is around 40 meters long and 20 meters wide and which used to have an island, holds up to 1.6 million liters. It could hardly be more idyllic than in the early years: a lonely pine tree stood on the island, only the sandy beach was missing. When the tree fell in a storm, the island was removed along with it. In December 2019, the extinguishing pond was pumped out (the reason was a nearby lightning strike that highlighted the risk of forest fires) and creeping plants and silt that would clog the fire service pumps were removed. Contrary to expectations, the pond filled up again within a few days.
