Apermarsch shelter - favorite place This favorite place is located in the Apermarsch district in the middle of fields and pastures. It was the first object to be set up in June 2020. This place became a favorite place because the sunrise can be wonderfully enjoyed here. - If you come by early, you might meet like-minded people who greet the sun with a thermos of tea. Jörg Ridderbusch's work reflects this moment with "many colorful birds" that accompany the sunrise with a concert and chirp happily. The 2.40 m high tower is populated by colorful sparrows who happily enjoy their existence and "whistle" to the cat lurking below

Story The village was first mentioned as "Neu Engeland" in the Vogtei map from 1793. A Johann Abot and his house were also shown here, who is said to have originally been an English officer and later changed his name to Alberts. There are two different surviving memories of this. In another interpretation, it was assumed that New England was named after the settlement of the narrow land on the edge of the former swamp and raised moor area.

The nature reserve, designated NSG WE 285, covers approximately 93 hectares. Approximately 81 hectares are located in the Cloppenburg district, and 12 hectares in the Ammerland district. The 85-hectare FFH area of the same name is part of the nature reserve. The area has been protected since January 1, 2018. The responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the Cloppenburg and Ammerland districts. The nature reserve is located east of Barßel. It protects a section of the lowland of the eponymous Godensholter Tief, with remnants of adjacent glacial inland dunes. The lowland is predominantly characterized by moist fen soils with grassland used as pasture or hay meadows. Reed beds and moist tall herbaceous meadows are also found. In some areas, remnants of alluvial forest dominated by alder and ash, wooded plots, and groups of trees are found. In some places, there are oxbow lakes of the Godensholter Tief.
