Amazing place. I was able to check out the shop and cafe, and have a peak at the garden, whetting my appetite to make it a day's destination some time.

A central pond, thatched cottages and a sense of peace, Ashmore is a wonderfully pretty village to pedal through. It's actually the highest in Dorset – too high for time to have caught up with it, as it rather feels like stepping into history.

A great place to commence and end the circular walk up to Win Green, the highest point in the Cranborne Chase AONB.

Bring lots of fluids expect to be there for a day

This pretty little wildlife pond lies in the midst of the village of Tollard Royal. On the Cranborne Chase plateau, the village sits in utter peace and serenity, with a 13th-century church and several thatched properties. The 'Royal' in the name likely comes from the influence of King John, who was once the lord of the local manor.

Fonthill Lake is a tranquil stretch of water nestling in the picturesque Fonthill Estate. You can hike right along the west banks of the lake and watch impressive displays of birdlife at all times of year. The lake was used as the location for the river scenes in the movie Chocolat, which starred Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp.

What a gorgeous area. A lovely descent down through stourton, the National Trust house, pub and houses and gardens. Under a grotto style bridge and views ahoy!

Built in from 1721 - 24, Stourhead is a wonderful estate at the source of the River Stour. The Stourton family owned the estate for 500 years until they sold it to the Hoare family, who demolished and built a new house. Today you can visit the wonderful lake and house, which is part-owned by the National Trust. The gardens are particularly stunning in autumn, when the trees hugging the river turn crimson and gold. Great National Trust place to stop and refuel, hot drink are around £2.50 and plenty of food to choose from. Grounds past cafe are free the members or around £19 for adults.
