Brim Fell is often overlooked as just a small rise on the ridge between Coniston Old Man and Swirl How but there is nearly 20m of re-ascent from both. It is possible to reach Brim Fell directly from Goats Hause without visiting the Old Man but Brim Fell lacks other connecting ridges. It is a good place to stop and reflect before or after the crowds on Coniston Old Man.

Brim Fell is a Wainwright summit on the ridge between the Old Man of Coniston and Swirl How and it can easily be linked to both. It's relatively wide summit plateau removes immediate foreground interest from the panorama, yet the view to the northwest, beyond Grey Friar and towards the Scafell massif, is excellent.

A good spot to stop for sandwiches and coffee and admiring the view.

Sunrise is the best

At only 335m this isn't a very big summit by Lake District standards, but its location makes it feel higher and gives great views in all directions. It's also got a trig point which is always fun to bag! The track up to the summit from the north is steep with some steps but it's reasonably safe and isn't really a scramble as some reviews suggest.

Lower than Whernside but higher than Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough at 723m is the third of the Yorkshire three peaks. It's a great summit, more defined than the long ridge of Whernside and with brilliant views in all directions. At a run, it's quite a climb from any direction, but never too steep (maybe?). The descent is amazing if you haven't wrecked your quads already.

There are amazing views from the summit of Ingleborough. If you're doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks this is usually the last of the 3 and the ascent is a real slog up! It's definitely worth it though.

This was our introduction to the Lake District. Not difficult but very worthwhile. And if you haven't had enough, you can continue hiking to the Red Screes like we did, which then results in an almost 17km long circular hike...
