The hike along Catbells is extremely popular — and for good reason. The walk is absolutely classic; fun terrain, spectacular views, lots of places to stop for picnics. In high season, it's unlikely that you'll be alone on the top. However, if you are in the northern lakes, you simply must enjoy the splendour of the Catbells. The name 'Catbells' may have come from the old English phrase 'cat's bield' — a wild cat's shelter — and is possibly from days gone by when wild cats still roamed these fells.

Most hikers no to always look back when you can, this is one of those views you wont want to miss, looking over Keswick with Skiddaw or Blencathra as a back drop, along with Derwent water.. Priceless..

A firm family favourite, Cat Bells is a classic Lakeland outing for young, old and everyone in-between. Sweeping aesthetically above Derwent Water with a distinctive profile, it is a little fell with big features: a taste of scrambling, a domed summit and mind-boggling views of the Borrowdale valley.

A very popular fell just outside Keswick.. It sits on the western shaw of Derwent Water and is easily accessible from Hawse End, there's parking spaces but they are very limited so it is advisable to get there early, don't risk parking on the yellow lines as you will definitely get a ticket. There are a few scrambles to get to the peak with very rewarding views of Keswick, Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake. Suitable for families of all ages.

Can be hectic up here but if you start early enough you can avoid most crowds. For a smaller climb it provides you with some fantastic views, as always look where you have come from for the best ones in my opinion.

This is a great walk - not too long but affords you with great views on a clear day. The paths are well set out and maintained and the route is fairly clear.

Fantastic views over Derwent Water and surrounds. Arrived later in the day around sunset with almost no one at what is usually a very busy peak.

Probably one of the greatest views in the Lake District, which is probably why its also one of the most popular hiking routes.. I would recommend a very early start to secure a space in the car park and to catch the morning light spreading over Derwent Water, Keswick and the beautiful valley leading onto Bassenthwaite Lake.
