Fine quiet single track roads - mostly very good surface

This small clearing off the roadside is an ideal spot to view Ben Nevis, the highest peak in Britain. Standing at the western end of the Grampian Mountains, the summit is 4,411 feet (1,344 m) above sea level and is the highest land in any direction for 459 miles (739 km). The viewpoint is an excellent informal picnic spot on the shores of Loch Linnhe, and serves as a peaceful, flat grassy place to pitch a tent.

This quiet road runs on the south side of Loch Eil and is a safer and scenic alternative to the busier A830 on the north side. From Fort William, this road is accessed by taking the Camusnagaul ferry, a small boat running every couple of hours. There's a picnic spot in the small hamlet of Blaich with a bench overlooking the loch and a small bay. At the east side near to Camusnagaul you'll find a woodland clearing direct views of Ben Nevis.

A small path leads from the lock to the lighthouse, but the view over Loch Lochy is also remarkable.

This road is a stunning and beautifully quiet single track road out to Loch Lunn Da-Bhra. A steep road greets you out of Fort William and the sharply rolling nature of this road continues to its end at the Loch. Although the tarmac finishes at the Loch, there's a myriad of MTB trails coming off this road, including where it meets with the west highland way and so it offers a good option for a partly off road route or a quick route out/back to Fort William.

Road surface here is very bad. Not good on a road bike.

A wee part of Fort William that backs onto the river (“Burn” in Scotland) between Loch Linnie & The Caledonian Canal. Interlocks also has a Bike shop if you need ”spares and repairs”. The path to the water is good gravel. Worth a wee detour.

Part of Gairlochy. This has a lighthouse on an amazing Scottish Highland Loch. Amazing scenery. 🚲

The views across to Ben Nevis are best from this area. Just down the road is the small Highland Ferries foot-passenger only ferry to Fort William. It's an irregular service, with no Sundat sailings, but part of Sustrans Route 78 so it will make a special journey to collect 2 or more cyclists who wish to cross.
