Idwal Gorge is a dramatic, steep-sided ravine located above Llyn Idwal in Eryri (Snowdonia). Known for the Idwal Staircase, it offers a challenging "Grade 2" scramble through mossy, water-worn rock and hidden cascades. In winter, it is a premier destination for ice climbers. Carved by glacial meltwater, this rugged cleft provides a raw encounter with the powerful geological forces that sculpted the iconic Ogwen Valley landscape.

After the rest stop at Llyn Y Cwn we descend and pass the Devil's Kitchen (Twll Du) again. The descent is as strenuous as the climb. The path, as far as can be seen, is quite steep in places. Then it becomes a matter of paying attention, scrambling and searching for the next section of the path. This is not such an easy part of the route. You have to use your hands and feet to conquer the steepest parts.

Great walk through a variety of tree species and easy to follow path. Would recommend going anti clockwise/reverse of suggested route as scenery coming back through gorge is stunning (with the bridge as a nice suprise at the end) and easier downhill as plenty of small steps. If taking a dog then be aware there is/are sheep grazing along the route but no stiles or fences to climb if you have a large dog but there are very steep banks/drops along the gorge so recommend keeping on a lead if they are a bit hectic! Would not recommend unless you have a basic level of fitness as some parts of the path are extremely steep.

The reserve at Coed Ganllwyd includes a steep, wooded gorge with tall waterfalls. The main attraction for many is the spectacular Black Falls of Rhaeadr Ddu on the Afon Gamlan. The forest is part of a wider Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is part of the Coedydd Derw a Safleoedd Ystlumod Meirion/Merionnydd Oak Woods and Bat Sites Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The wet climate that nourishes the falls also creates the humid conditions in the gorge, making it the richest place for mosses in northwestern Europe. The rocks and tree trunks are decorated with the green and gray growth of these simple plants. The trees largely escaped felling during two world wars and are an excellent example of the ancient oak forest of this part of Wales. (VisitMidWales)

The Pass of Aberglaslyn is a magnificent, rocky gorge to the south of Beddgelert. It speeds the Afon Glaslyn on this part of its long journey from high on the slopes of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) towards where it meets the sea at Tremadog Bay. The rocky trail here can be slippery when wet, so take care.

Varied route where you don't just walk along. Magnificent views! And if you're lucky, you'll see otters hunting! You can't see the road that runs parallel to the river - partly because of the noise of the water and partly because of the vegetation on the bank.

At this point, a tunnel leads about 30 - 40 meters into the rock. We suspect that this has something to do with the former copper mining in this area... With a flashlight/headlamp and sturdy shoes (there is water on the ground) you can walk to the end of the tunnel. Not spectacular, but for some a nice little discovery along the way. :)
