Bodenstein Castle, located above Wintzingerode, has a history dating back around 1,000 years. Well-preserved and restored, it is one of the jewels of the Eichsfeld region. The forest surrounding the castle offers picturesque hiking trails.

The castle complex has a core castle around a triangular courtyard with a palas in the south, a late Gothic pointed arch portal in the west and the knight's hall in the north. Gleichenstein Castle is located on the 459.7 m high Schloßberg, a spur-like extension of the Bornberg.
