Canyon Lake is a real oasis in the desert. The 950-acre lake sparkles under the Arizona sun like a jewel plucked from a crown, and here, at the marina, you'll find a general store, campground, and a chance to rent all sorts of watercraft or go for a cruise on the Dolly Steamboat.

Crabtree Wash offers dispersed camping free of charge and with access to the Salt River. There are some pit toilets, but no other amenities. Also, there are very few spots that provide shade. Please pack out all your trash to leave this site cleab for others to enjoy.

Ayer Lake appears more like a pond. It's a main attraction for a lot of the animals that live in the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and is a great spot to view wildlife off the side of the trail.

Roosevelt Lake Marina is a full-service marina on the south side of Roosevelt Lake. Theodore Roosevelt Lake is 21,500 acres of water in size and encompasses 128 miles of sandy shoreline and crystal-clear water. Here, you can grab a burger and enjoy a refreshing waterfront break.

Green Valley Park is considered the “Jewel of Payson” and is located at the end of Main Street. There is a main lake with a couple smaller ponds on the property that the walking paths circle around. There are a bunch of other recreational amenities at the park and its numerous trailheads, making it the perfect spot for a short family hike without having to leave town.

Horseshoe Dam separates Horseshoe Reservoir from the Verde River in Tonto National Forest. The lake is one of the most remote lakes in this part of Arizona and has a couple different recreation areas offering access to the water. Some dirt roads and double-track trails offer some options for exploring the area, but use of the lake itself is the main recreational activity.

Fossil Springs boasts beautiful blue-green pools, making it a popular spot for swimming and family hiking. It's important to keep in mind that you may need a reservation to hike here during certain times of the year.
