Start early to take advantage of the shade in the valley. Be prepared for a lot of rock scrambles in the later half of the route. Also most of the elevation gain in the back section. I would recommend hiking (I use cheap weight lifting) gloves. All that said, the effort is well worth it. The views up and down are phenomenal. And if you go on the weekend look for Flatiron Jim

I recommend doing this summit to watch the sunrise, enjoying a 360-degree panorama. About thirty minutes from the Surgarloaf trailhead, bring a headlamp and go up when it is dark, because the show starts at first light, symphonies of color. A must do if you are staying in Sedona.

The baby version of the Bell Rock is certainly not quite as impressive as the big brother, but even the view over Sedona is worth the short detour to the short circular route.

Reaching up to 6,447 feet, Bear Mountain is a secluded peak offering sweeping views in the Red Rock-Secret Wilderness within Coconino National Forest. There are so many other trails in the wilderness that draw crowds, while this summit usually offers a little more solitude. You have to work for the peak, though!

Created by a thick layer of volcanic ash, Weaver's Needle is a 1000-foot distinctive peak visible for miles around and set in a picturesque desert landscape.

Picket Post Mountain is located near the town of Superior. The name comes from a former military post that was located at the foot of the mountain. At the top of the mountain there is said to be a mailbox with a logbook of the mountain. At the bottom is the trailhead to the Arizona Trail as well as a trail register and toilets.
