Here, you can marvel at architecture and memories spanning over four centuries. Eksjö as a town has existed since the 15th century. However, it burned down completely in the mid-16th century and had to be rebuilt. Most of the buildings in the picturesque town center today were constructed after the fire. Many of the houses you can admire today were built in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.

The path twists through the forest, with breathtaking views over the lake visible between the branches. The lake is nestled into the centre of the Illern Nature Reserve. The water is clear and the biodiversity is exceptional.

The entire old town of Eksjö, with its centuries-old houses and magnificent wooden courtyards, is a listed building! Over 50 objects have been designated as cultural monuments. In 1997 Eksjö received the Europa Nostra diploma for "good preservation of the building fabric and monument protection".
