Jerez de los Caballeros is a town with a rich historical legacy, located in the southwest of the province of Badajoz, Extremadura. Ancient Origins: Its history dates back to the Phoenicians, passing through Roman, Visigothic, Muslim, and Christian periods. It was known as Ceret, Fama Iulia, Xerixa, and finally Jerez de los Caballeros after the Reconquista. Templars: In the 13th century, the Knights Templar took control of the town, leaving an indelible mark on its architecture and culture. Historic Center: Declared a Historic-Artistic Site, it is notable for its Baroque churches, medieval walls, cobbled streets, and stately homes.

It's a small border town with a rich history, where you'll find the necessary services to rest and recharge if you're passing through.

Very beautiful Spanish town very close to the Portuguese border

The Castle of Alandroal is a medieval fortress located in the municipality of Alandroal, in Portugal’s Évora district. It is classified as a National Monument.

The municipality is known for its significant historical and cultural heritage, which includes the Alandroal Castle (its most emblematic monument), historic churches and Roman remains. Alandroal is also part of the Alentejo of wine, with quality wine production. You can stop for a break and enjoy its tranquility and the authenticity of its traditions.

According to various booking platforms, the lavishly restored former monastery now houses a 3-star hotel. During our visit in May 2025, the entire site appeared deserted.

What's particularly interesting about the Xerez stone group is its square shape. The menhir is located in the center, surrounded by smaller stones. A concrete path leads from the Orada Monastery to it—is this really necessary? A regular path would certainly have sufficed. The entire area appears very neglected.

The Xerez Cromlech stands on open land, close to the Convent of Orada, and with a view of the walls of Monsaraz. It is the second "home" to prevent it from being submerged by the Alqueva dam. The 55 granite menhirs of the Xerez Cromlech have already been to other places because they were moved here, to the vicinity of the village of Telheiro, in 2004, to prevent submersion by the Alqueva dam. The cromlech was in front of Monte Xerez, close to a dolmen, about 5km from Monsaraz.
