The dam that created this reservoir was built in 1995. It was built for water management in the surrounding area. It is also popular for fishing.

This small town of almost 2,000 inhabitants has a long history and has numerous places of interest such as El Castillo del Coso, La Ermita Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Loreto and La casa de la Calle del Espíritu Santo.

This small town, once part of Portugal, is located just a few kilometers from Alconchel. Its population has been declining since the 1950s and now has fewer than 700 inhabitants.

Early settlements are discussed here, but may be as old as the Neolithic period. In the 60s, many of its inhabitants moved, considerably reducing the population, but now the town tries to take advantage of its proximity to the Alqueva reservoir to attract tourists.

In a spectacular setting, we come across this Franciscan convent, almost 400 years old (15th century). It is in a state of ruin. Next to it, we can see the aqueduct (18th century), which served to supply water to the building. A place to visit, preferably in spring or autumn.

Hidden between roads and extensive Extremaduran meadows, we find the beautiful Bogaña bridge that allows us to cross the Alcarrache river.
