The Col de la Luère is an essential passage for cyclists. Situated in the mountains, it offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding area. The slopes can be steep, but the effort is worth it for cycling enthusiasts.

The highest point of this ancient ridge path marked the feudal boundary between the Archbishopric of Lyon, the Abbey of Savigny and the County of Forez. Today the Col de la Croix du Ban can easily be reached via the road or by following the ridge path. It offers a superb view of the Lyon region on its eastern slope, and of the Lyonnais mountains on its western slope.

The old Col de la Croix du Ban marked the feudal boundary between the Archdiocese of Lyon, the Abbey of Savigny and the County of Forez, whose capital was Montbrison. Here the view is not as clear as at the Col de la Croix du Ban, however you can enjoy the view of the old cross and this beautiful wooded atmosphere, which depending on the light can be very bucolic.

I was told that the Ban corresponded to the passage of the banished (convicts) who passed escorted to avoid the surrounding villages...to be checked...
