The mine has served as a supplier of roofing slate tiles for the Marienstatt Monastery and the Hachenburg Castle since the Middle Ages. Forgotten and discovered by chance in an old document, the mine was found and restored after a 17-year search. The mine is located directly on the Westerwaldsteig and can be visited all year round.
