The building is built of red stone and beautifully decorated with marble reliefs. Of particular note are the bas-reliefs depicting battle scenes and Emperor Galerius riding a horse into the cheering city. The Triumphal Arch of Emperor Galerius (known as Kamara) was probably built around 305 to celebrate the victory of the tetrarch Galerius over the Sassanid Persians and the capture of their capital Ctesiphon in 297. The arch, stretching over the Via Egnatia, was once formed by four pillars (two survive to this day). In the past, the arch was connected to the Rotunda by a processional path (the embankment remains to this day), which together with the hippodrome and the palace complex (comparable to Diocletian's Palace in Split) formed a single whole (you can only see their remains, as well as restored floor mosaics). One of the sights in the city. You can also go up the tower and enjoy the view. If you are traveling by car, you should leave the car somewhere and then walk because there is a lot of traffic there.

The Church of St. Demetrios is particularly impressive due to its columns and arcades and the early Byzantine mosaics. In the left aisle there is a canopy-like chapel in which the relics of Demetrios are kept - he is not only the namesake of this church, but also the patron saint of Thessaloniki.
