Belleplain State Forest is a 21,320-acre nature reserve. It has miles of dirt trails and paved roads that cut through it, so you can many options to see the beautiful woodland depending on the type of ride you want to take.

A twelve-foot stone pillar honors pilot Emilio Carranza, who crashed on his way home to Mexico after a goodwill flight over New York City in 1928. Carranza was returning Charles Lindbergh's goodwill flight over Mexico City from the previous year when he was caught in a thunderstorm over the pine barrens.

In 2017 a forest fire burned about 1,000 acres of Wharton State Forest. You can see the new growth pushing up between the burnt pillars of pine along the east side of the road.

Atsion Lake is a man-made lake in Wharton State Forest, formed by a dammed portion of the Mullica River, covering close to 100 acres. It's a popular place for boating, fishing, swimming, and camping.

Nummy Lake is located in Belleplain State Forest. It is a good place to swim, fish and birdwatch during the migrations period.

Pioneers in green burial. I parked my bike near the entrance to project the thick, beautiful, natural moss paths that run throughout the cemetery. This is one of the most beautiful and interesting places I have ever seen.
