Markt Bibart quarry - structural diversity and species richness of the renatured gypsum quarry

The newly created scenic lake between the village of Seinsheim and the vineyards of the "Seinsheimer Hohenbühl" appellation offers an oasis for rest and relaxation. Parts of the Tree Horoscope Trail also encircle the lake. Swimming is not permitted, but relaxation is allowed. There is a playground for children and a volleyball court for adults.

The cypress lake is part of the English landscape park in the castle park. Originally circular, it has silted up and grown over in many places over the years. In the middle of the cypress lake, the bald cypress tree, which was probably planted by Count Alexander, has still been preserved today. Bald cypress trees actually come from southeastern North America and can grow up to 35 meters tall. This bald cypress is estimated to be around 100 years old. This is still a very young age for the tree, as bald cypresses can live up to 1000 years. The bald cypress in the castle park is now around 23 meters high and has a trunk circumference of around 2 meters. In the cold season the tree does not make a good impression. Bald cypresses not only shed their needle leaves in autumn, but also entire branches. Quite nice place to relax. As of this writing in early June, be careful around the water where you step. Young frogs are everywhere. Very nice place where you can take great pictures. We have been here twice and it has a different flair in every season

This is a renatured gypsum quarry from the world-famous gypsum company Knauf, which is based in Iphofen. Various habitats were created in the former gypsum quarry. The still waters, spoil heaps and alternating wet areas created here offer a new home to a variety of plants and animals.

At the old quarry of Markt Bibart you can see very well how nature is changing back into a diverse habitat. A display board explains the flora and fauna of the biotope.
