Nesselande, a spacious new extension at the edge of the city limits, is situated on the north-eastern fringe of Rotterdam. The palm trees and the wide beach on Siciliëboulevard feel like a little corner of southern Europe in Rotterdam. Siciliëboulevard and Maltaplein offer restaurants and ice cream shops, as well as clothing stores and supermarkets. There is still plenty to see and do once summer ends. The shops are open every Sunday. Nesselande is also a good starting point for a bike ride through the Groene Hart, a relatively rural region enclosed by the urban areas in the western part of the Netherlands, boasting a high concentration of lakes, wetlands and forests.
