A very beautiful park with many old trees and beautiful plantings. The lakes form the center of the park. Old redwoods and sequoias are found here.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a wonderful and diverse area: a coastline with a pebble beach, a sea wall, lakes from former gravel pits, sheep pastures, canals, inland former pebble beaches, the Rother estuary, bunker sites, various beach plants, and a diverse range of birds. The Discovery Centre offers information and a café with friendly service.

Four lakes form the heart of the garden and at the end of the line of sight the Gothic castle rises on a hill. While you can explore all the paths in the garden and the adjacent parkland, the house is privately owned and cannot be visited. The design of the park and the expansion of the house were initiated by John Holroyd at the end of the 19th century. He and his wife spent a fortune to design the property according to their ideas. The park and garden were further designed according to the original plans by subsequent owners. Finally, the National Trust acquired the site and now looks after it. At the back exit of Bateman's and therefore worth visiting even if you are not visiting the park and the house. We walked a very long way around the grounds - the only benches were here 😳

A 206-acre (85 ha) Site of Special Scientific Interest, Buxted Park makes for a splendid amble. The deer park originates from 1199 and the Grade II-listed manor house at its centre has since been turned into a hotel. Much of the grassland has been left unimproved, providing a rare habitat for many species. The grounds are home to a large herd of deer, as well as a number of exotic birds at the artificial lake.
