Views for days! But extremely bleak when it wants to be. Nice early tickbox when walking the Pennine Way

If you follow the trail down from the trig point back to snake pass summit you pass a couple of surprise waterfalls.

Awesome trails for MTBs, can be abit windy. Be careful of the stone slabs leading into the pike can be slippy if wet

The Kinder Low trig pillar (633m) is a very popular destination sitting on the plateau of Kinder Scout. The trig pillar doesn't mark the actual summit of Kinder Scout, which actually lies north-east of here, further into the heart of the plateau, and is not marked by a trig pillar.

It's always nice to touch the trig after the climb up! There are lots of routes from here heading either to Holme Moss, Crowden or back down the Pennine Way to Wessenden.

Used by many people as the summit of Kinder Scout (as the actual summit is hard to find), the trig point is high up on some rocks.

Stoodley Pike is a 402m high hill in the south Pennines on Langfield Common. It's best known for the 37m high monument to the defeat of Napoleon and the end of the Napoleonic War. By coincidence it was completed at the end of the Crimean War in 1856.

Keep your wits about you when walking from Higher Shelf Stones as it can be quite boggy. Take additional socks with you. I went in July 2022 and sank to the top of my walking boots for most of the distance between the 2 Ethels.

There are loads of different ways to summit Black Hill, with the Pennine Way from Crowden being one of the most scenic. Starting from Holme village means you get to have a circular walk with a pub stop at The Fleece, and a pass by Blackpool Bridge will give you chance for a paddle on a hot day.

Much easier to find than Kinder Scout as the white painted trigonometry point guides the way from afar. There are quite many different routes crossing here and one is seldom alone.

Standing 1,300 feet (396.2 m) above sea level, and at a physical height of 120 feet (36.57 m), the first monument was 113 feet (34.44 m) high. Stoodley Pike was first erected in 1814 to commemorate the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Samuel Greenwood, Thomas Sutcliffe and Richard Ingham were granted permission to erect a monument to celebrate peace in Great Britain on 22nd September 1814 at the Golden Lion Inn, Stones. The first monument collapsed in 1854 and was rebuilt by public subscription two years later. Some maintenance worked was carried out in 1889. The second obelisk was designed by local architect John Green, and built by Lewis Crabtree at a cost of £750. £820 was originally raised by 203 subscribers. The restoration work in 1889 cost £160. The inner staircase has 39 steps. It is a Grade II Listed Building.
