7월 10, 2025, Bristol and Bath Railway Path
I road from Bath to Caldicot South Wales last summer on this route, amazing calm journey to Bristol, stopped off at the old railway building for a coffee on the way. Excellent path to be fair, even for a Saturday, only about 40 or so at the old station stop, but no issues with riding, peaceful to be fair.

3월 31, 2025, Frenchay Bridge
Grade II listed building, listed in 1984. It stands within the South Gloucestershire county, not "Bristol Proper," although it is (at least nowadays) very much a part of Bristol. When this was constructed in 1788, it was in the "Parish of Chipping Sodbury," but as time went on & the population grew in the mid - latter ¼ of the 20th century, Bristol expanded exponentially northwards. Lots of old parishes & what would have been small villages, such as Frenchay, have now become part of the city. The bridge itself is stunning. There is an old plaque reading that the bridge "is unsafe to carry a weight beyond 6 tons." It's in a really pretty area, right in the suburbs (well, urban sprawl! In Bristol, it's pretty hard to tell where one area starts and ends!) But, you can easily feel miles away from the noise & and built-up areas not far from here. The weekends at Oldbury Court / Vassals & Snuff Mills are really horrendously busy, if possible, I'd advise visiting on a weekday.

9월 23, 2024, Statue of William III, Queen Square
Queen's Square is a Georgian square near Bristol's city centre. Between the 1930s and 1991 a main road went through the middle, but a successful Lottery bid for funding allowed it to be restored to it's 1817 layout. In the centre of the square is an equestrian statue of William III by John Michael Rysbrack, cast in 1733 and erected in 1736.

8월 19, 2023, Bristol and Bath Railway Path
Some major works to the first portion in Bristol, and the Mangotsfield section have fixed a lot of the issues that plagued our lovely path but there are still some sections which have seriously deteriorated, most notably the Oldland common section just before Bitton and the section between Bath and Saltford. All this is to say, for the most part I don't recommend this for road bikes. Not only is 35kmh too fast for this path (and you can absolutely get up that fast and beyond), it will also rattle you pretty roughly. I tend to avoid as much of it as I can, only jumping onto it when it's getting late and I don't want to get caught out on country lanes in the dark. A fabulous commuter route though.

5월 8, 2023, Statue of William III, Queen Square
This area was designated as a tree lined square and a place to play bowls in 1622. It was laid out on an old area of marshland previously used as a dump and firing range. The first houses were built on the southern side of the square between 1699 & 1700, and it was named Queen Square in 1702 after Queen Anne. The statue of William III was erected in 1736. Today it's a lovely place to walk or take a break. The square is sometimes used as a venue for a big screen and communal party for events like the Olympics or world cups.

5월 7, 2023, Frenchay Bridge
Built in 1788 by subscription. It's of cobble and stone construction with a very round arch. The bridge crosses the river Frome and is a handy link between Frenchay and the main city of Bristol as well as allowing access to the Frome river path and Oldbury Court estate.

Standing at the top of Park Street the Wills Memorial Building is currently used by the university of Bristol and houses the School of Law and department of Earth Sciences. The tower was built in the early 1900's and opened in 1925. It was built in memory of Henry Overton Wills by his sons.

Connecting the cobbled streets of the Old City to the modern bars, restaurants, museums and attractions around Millenium Square, Pero's Bridge is an important link in the city. This pedestrian crossing also remembers Bristol's links to the Slave Trade and is named in honour of Pero Jones, an enslaved African who lived in Bristol. The crossing is a trendy place for lovers to display their affection by fixing padlocks in the railings. This practice has caused controversy, as many feel this doesn't respect Pero Jones' memory.
