The Trans Pennine Trail is a national coast to coast route for recreation and transport – for walkers, cyclists and (in part) horse riders.

The core of the church is believed to be 8th-century, based on similarities with Northumbrian churches known to date from this period. If this date is accurate, it is the oldest building in South Yorkshire. Historian David Hey argues that it was a minster church, forming the centre of a large, early parish, covering all or much of the 11th-century Fee of Conisbrough. From this early period survives much of the stonework of the tower and nave, including some windows, most of which were later blocked. Part of a 10th-century cross shaft has been discovered, and the church is recorded in the Domesday Book as having a single priest.

I didn't see the viaduct from this bridge but it was still a nice view over the River Don.

Great place to stop and have a beer, soft drink or a bite to eat. Open through the day and into the evening. Outside seating also available for those with bikes. Muddy boots and dogs are welcomed.

Lovely view over the river and surrounding area. Recommend for new year to watch the fireworks.

Can walk around the grounds free of charge and plenty of roadside parking.

Conisbrough Viaduct is an impressive railway structure that was build in the mid-19th century. It features 21 arches and spans the River Don, connecting the towns of Conisbrough and Mexborough.

make sure to go in the pub to park your car..i tried to go for a pint after my hike..but was very busy and the ques were out the door

It's a former railway viaduct built in 1906 - 1909, with 21 arches and a lattice girder river span. There were 15 millions bricks used to build this beautiful construction.

Conisbrough Viaduct is a former railway viaduct, near to Cadeby and Conisbrough in South Yorkshire, England. The viaduct consists of two sections of brick and stone on each bank, connected by a lattice girder section, some 113–116 feet (34–35 m) over the River Don. The height and space were required should shipping need to navigate along the river. The viaduct carried the Dearne Valley Railway over the River Don between 1909 and 1966, after closure it was converted into a foot and cycle path. Stopped for coffee before and nibbles and drinks after the walk. Warm, friendly, great food and excellent coffee.

Lovely clear path, lots of nature, easy under foot.

When the route veers off the path under the viaduct be aware this is not a well kept, if at all, path and requires ducking under fallen trees and avoiding a marsh bed. If I did it again I’d continue along the paved path next to the viaduct as this rejoins the Komoot route further on.

On the Conisbrough viaduct high melton wood loop walk start at the lay-by by The Boat Inn instead of the Ivanhoe Hotel. On your return instead of turning left onto Westmorland Avenue carry on straight along Folder Lane onto New Lane then down the steps back to the riverside with The Boat Inn on your right. Cuts down on walking through residential streets and increases the attractive elements of the walk. A very pleasant and not particularly muddy 14+km walk with nothing challenging anyone on foot can’t handle.

An inn that dates back to 1652, where Walter Scott was said to have written one a tract of his novel Ivanhoe. A superb place to stop for hearty food - country pub classics as well as seasonal dishes, which can be enjoyed right alongside the River Don in the summer months.

A fantastic area for nature enthusiasts that's rich in bird and wildlife. A mix of open water, wetlands and woodland, it's a year-round treat for any nature lover.
