A very lively square and arguably one of the most beautiful castle complexes in all of Albania. Highly recommended. A stroll along the equally picturesque street leading to the hotel, past the souvenir stalls, is also worthwhile.

Originally a Byzantine monastery complex (around 1418), severely damaged in an earthquake in 1852, partially renovated recently (2022). It also serves as a place of pilgrimage, especially annually on June 13th (Feast of St. Anthony). Late Romanesque/Gothic architecture, approximately 13.5 x 6 meters in size, and fairly well preserved. The path leading there is partly impassable or difficult to access (depending on the season). Frescoes and wall paintings have been preserved inside: for example, a double-headed eagle (associated with the Kastrioti family coat of arms) and a horsewoman figure, interpreted as Mamica Kastrioti (sister of the national hero Skënderbeu). Here's some information I've researched about the ruins: Kalaja e Rodonit (Rodoni Castle) The castle is located on Kepi i Rodonit (Rodon Cape), a promontory on the coast of Albania, near Durrës. Construction of the castle began in 1450 by Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu and was completed around 1452. Today, the site is a popular tourist destination due to its combination of nature, sea views, and historical ruins. A walking trail ("Falëza e Kishës - Kalaja e Kepit të Rodonit") was recently marked, approximately 2 km long (round trip), with views of the castle. Visitors should note that the ruins are in a severe state of disrepair – they are no longer a complete castle, but rather ruins with little infrastructure. It's on Gamti mountain, not Dajti and don't underestimate the challenge of the hike's last part.

This tower, part of a former Byzantine fortress, was built in the 5th century under Emperor Anastasius I. It gained importance in the 15th century under Venetian rule and served as an important observation post for the city's defense against threats from the sea. The cylindrical tower was strategically located for artillery purposes. Today, it is a historical landmark in Durrës, particularly attracting culture enthusiasts.

The access to the parking lot and starting point is almost impossible with a regular car. At a certain point, the road is nothing but gravel and deep potholes. An off-road vehicle is recommended.
