The church was built in 1899 as a free church building. It has only been an ordinary parish church since 1972. The church is closely linked to the local elementary school.

Askov Church is located in Askov close to the west of Vejen in South Jutland. The church's history is closely linked to Askov Folk High School, which it is almost next door to. Askov Church is beautifully situated next to the road pond in Askov, a few kilometers west of Vejen. The church was built in 1899. The red brick church with a slate roof was designed by architect Rolf Schroeder. The church building consists of a three-nave nave with an apse in the east and a tower above the north-west nave. On October 28, 2011 Peter Carlsen's three meter high and 3.5 ton stoneware sculpture ”Verdensmestre” (World Champions) was inaugurated in front of the Vejen Idrætscenter. Peter S. Carlsen (born February 19, 1955) is a Danish painter and printmaker. 1977 Admission to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

The old church in Holsted was where the cemetery is today. The granite stones were reused from the old church.
