This watermill was in operation for 40 years. It has been restored to its original condition, and its paddle wheel now allows the gears and thus the millstone to rotate. The aroma of walnut and hazelnut oil, which has been pressed here for years, can be smelled throughout the interior.

The four-kilometer-long canal serves as a natural outlet for the waters of Lake Bourget toward the Rhône, and vice versa when the river is in flood. Over the years, it has been widened, rectified, and cleaned to improve the passage of commercial and passenger ships. In the last century, this was an important trade route.

It is a superb mill overlooking the village of Chanaz. Dating back to 1868, it has been restored to its original condition and today produces walnut and hazelnut oils in the same way as in the past. A visit worth the detour!

This strikingly arched pedestrian bridge in Chanaz must be crossed by every hiker on the GR 65. From there you have a nice view of the small town of Chanaz. In this place there are still houses from the 15th and 16th centuries. Many artisans have settled in the center and exhibit their works in the narrow streets and old houses.

The Canal de Savière in Chanaz, with its waterfront promenade running on wooden planks over the water, is a particularly beautiful place. Here you can have a good time in the restaurant and watch the boats traveling on the 3.5 km long canal to Lac de Bourget.

The mill In the 19th century, three mills stood upstream, the oldest being the paddle wheel, leaving the construction of two others. The downstream one is no longer used as a mill. It was originally intended for flour production and in 1946, nut oil production was started (the only activity currently maintained). After more than 40 years of business interruption and under the influence of a common will, this factory was relaunched in 1995. Khanat. This paste thus obtained is then dehydrated and then rolled up in a cloth called scourtin and placed in the hydraulic press to extract its oil first under cold pressure. At the end of the pressing, we bring back the cake (use flour). Individuals can bring their nut kernels or hazelnut almonds and go with their first cold-pressed oil. meaning
