Lake Zell, formed towards the end of the Würm glaciation 16,000 years ago, is closely linked to the history of Kißlegg. A monastery cell ("Zelle am See") built on the shore of what was then the lake was first documented in 824. "Radpodiszella" and "Kißleggzell" were the first place names of the settlement that developed there.

The parish church of St. Gallus and Ulrich in Kißlegg in the Allgäu is a Roman Catholic baroque church. It is a three-aisled building with the character of a basilica. Two semicircular side chapels are attached to both sides of the nave. Large round-arched windows bring light into the nave and the choir. In keeping with the baroque taste of the time, round arches dominate the room. A barrel vault forms the ceiling of the central nave. On both sides of the choir in the east there is a sacristy to the right and left. Above the two sacristy rooms are the two galleries for the royal houses. The choir is covered by a flat dome almost 8 m wide. The 49.5 m high tower is located in the middle of the west façade. It thus takes up the space where the main portal is usually located on church buildings. The two main entrances are located on both sides in the western part of the nave.

The ice ages have significantly shaped the Upper Swabian landscape. The hollows and depressions cleared by the glaciers filled with water after the icebergs melted more than 18,000 years ago. The lakes silted up and became moors, from which people later extracted peat as fuel. Peat was still being dug in the Kißlegg Burgermoos in the 1950s. "Radpodiszella" and "Kißleggzell" were the first names of the settlement that developed from this site. Today, Lake Zellersee is a popular fishing spot. Other uses, which pose problems for nature conservation due to its proximity to the town, include swimming in the summer and ice skating in the winter. Because of its poor water quality, Lake Zellersee has been included in the "Action Program for the Restoration of Upper Swabian Lakes" of the Tübingen Regional Council. Source: Wikipedia
