Kuivasjärvi is a shallow lake in northern Oulu, known as a rich bird habitat. Its outlet stream, Kuivasoja, flows about five kilometers west through protected woodland before reaching the sea. Together they form a green corridor where water, wildlife, and city life meet.

Here you can buy delicious vegetables and fruit from farmers. If you're hungry, there are plenty of restaurants where you can try something. Unfortunately, no Scandinavian cuisine.

The castle was a late defensive castle in Oulu. It was built in 1590 on an island in the Oulu River delta. The castle consisted mostly of wood and earth walls. A medieval castle likely stood on the same site as early as 1375. Today, a café occupies the site.
