Genesis, the Young Olav A giant youth emerging from a pool of water at St. Marie Plass is a site-specific landmark in Sarpsborg, Norway. Great view over this body of water, in winter if the ice is thick enough it is walkable (or rideable).

Ideal spot for a breather and taking in the views.

The millennium sculpture "Genesis" by artist Finn Eirik Modahl was inaugurated by King Harald V on 29 July 2016 for Sarpsborg's millennium celebrations. The artwork refers to the founder of the city of Sarpsborg Olav the Saint and to the water. A young man of the present time is shown with a view into the future, emerging from the water. The 5 m high bust of Olav is made of reflective steel, in which everyone can reflect themselves.

You can really relax here. Children's playground, café and ice cream as well as plenty of seating are available.

This is a perfect rest stop.
