The old district office on the Westergasterrein stood empty for years. Initially the plan was to turn it into offices, but that never got off the ground. Ultimately, in 2018 it became a hotel with a restaurant and bar called Bar Kantoor. A nod to the original purpose of the building. 'In a short time it has become a real living room place. They have a small library there, which is the perfect place to meet with a few people. The food is all vegetarian and the hotel is 100% electric. So besides the fact that it is a nice place for local residents, it is also good for the planet.'

It is the middle of the three main canals of the Amsterdam canal belt and lies outside the Herengracht and inside the Prinsengracht. The Keizersgracht was first laid out in 1612 and completed to its current length in 1658. It is named after the Roman-German Emperor Maximilian I (1459-1519) and is the widest canal in central Amsterdam. Like the entire inner city, this street of the Keizersgracht is characterized by the typical patrician houses of Amsterdam with their unique variety of facades.

Papiermolensluis is a stone bridge that spans one of the canals. It is probably one of the most photographed landmarks as the layout of the houses in the background and the canal in the foreground perfectly capture the 'atmosphere' and architecture of Amsterdam.
