Two free ferries depart from here: a short crossing to Distelweg and a slightly longer one to the NDSM site. Ferries usually depart every 20 minutes. The destinations are less than a 10-minute bike ride apart.

Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands. It is known for its artistic heritage, an extensive canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades that date back to the city's so-called Golden Age in the 17th century. The museum district is home to the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum with works by Rembrandt and Vermeer, and the Stedelijk Museum of modern art. Cycling is part of the city's culture, so the cityscape is characterized by numerous cycle paths.

Travelling around Amsterdam by train is easy and fast. The city has nine train stations spread across the different districts of Amsterdam. Amsterdam Central Station: 10 minutes walk from Dam Square and Nieuwmarkt. Behind the Central Station: take the free ferries to Amsterdam Noord (Amsterdam North).

The Dutch government plans to move long-distance traffic from the station to Amsterdam-Zuid to avoid trains turning around at Amsterdam Centraal. This, and together with reconstruction measures, could increase the current frequency of 34 trains to 57 trains per hour; the number of passengers is expected to rise to 275,000 by 2030.[7] All platformless tracks are to be expanded and the number of platforms reduced from ten to nine. The space gained will be used to widen the remaining platforms, create more space for passengers and ensure faster processing. All of this is expected to cost around 350 million euros and will not be completed before 2030. However, the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), the main user of the facility, is opposing the measure because it does not agree with the intended operating concept.[8]
