This plateau offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains for miles around. You'll cross mountain meadows and swampy sections on wooden plank paths.

Fröåtjärnen Lake, near Åre, offers a peaceful escape for cyclists. The still waters reflecs the surrounding mountains and trails wind through forests, leading to the lake's shores. There is a little beach to swim, and a barbecue area for a picnic.

The 1.3 kilometer long one-way path offers children, in particular, a glimpse into the mythical world of Åre. It is said that trolls are hiding along the way, so you always have to keep your eyes open. Some hide in the roots of trees. Others petrify during the day. Legends and fairy tales of Åredalen are mentioned on signs along the way. Like the story of the Riesenrut in Skut and its fight with the Riesenjätt in Spett. The path meanders sheltered through the forest and follows the roaring Mörviksån or Susabäcken, as it is popularly known, in the upper part.

A very chic restaurant has been set up today in the "Old Fire Station", the "Gamla Fire Stations". The creperie, which is also available in Stockholm, Visby and Borgholm, tempts with a wide range of options - especially for vegetarians and vegans.

Between the central square Åre torg and the train station lies the beautifully landscaped Åre park. It is one of the few remaining green areas in the middle of the intensively developed tourist metropolis. There is also a nice playground here.

The Susabäcken canal helps to drain the slope of the former village of Åre on the slopes of the 1,420 meter high Åreskutan, which was almost completely built up and concreted over as a result of the tourism boom.

In 1906 there was a proposal to build a mountain railway (Swedish: Bergbanan) from Åre to the summit of Åreskutan. The planned route went from Åre Torg, the central square in the town, via Östra Platån and Mörvikshummeln to the summit. However, the route was only realized as far as Östra Platån (near Hotell Fjällgården) and was built from 1908 and opened on March 7, 1910. Of all the lifts, only the Åre Bergbana starts from the historic town center.

The central square of the town of 3,000 inhabitants is Åre torg. It is surrounded by hotels, restaurants, discos and shops. This is where locals and hordes of holidaymakers come together to enjoy the attractions of this ski resort, one of Sweden's oldest and most important.
