make sure you pick your path properly. don't rush up. some loose rocks, icy ground and not great visibility when i was there. be careful how you tread.

There are wild ponies in the area if you’re lucky enough to see them on the day

Very nice place to visit. Stunning views and generally a great location for a chill once up there.

At 610m Tal y Fan is the northern most outlier of the Carneddau mountains. The trig point on top gives wonderful views into Snowdonia National Park or north and out to sea. It's a great little mountain, off the beaten track and with a wild feeling.

Flat gravel road from the car park to the track junction. Nice to bike in from pen y gaer hill fort to the NE.

Pen y Castell is another Nuttall in the Carneddau. Beautiful views to the higher tops. Summit is a large boulder on the plataeu.

What a great view towards the coast and over to Anglesey and inland the the higher peaks in the Carneddau. The most northerly hill over 2000ft. Great summit!

Eigiau Dam Disaster. On 2 November 1925 the failure of two dams caused a flood that swamped the village of Dolgarrog, killing 16 people. The disaster was started by the failure of the Eigiau Dam, a gravity dam owned by the Aluminium Corporation. The water released from the reservoir flooded downstream,[10] and overtopped the Coedty Dam, an embankment dam. This dam also subsequently failed, releasing the huge volume of water that flooded Dolgarrog.[11] Many more villagers could have been killed had they not been in the local theatre watching a film that night. The disaster at Dolgarrog led the British parliament to pass the Reservoirs (Safety Provisions) Act in 1930, which introduced laws on the safety of reservoirs. This has since been updated, and the current one is the Reservoirs Act, 1975.

Pen y Castell is a summit in the Carneddau mountains in north Wales. It tops the east ridge of Drum (Wales). The summit consists of rocky outcrops amid a small boggy plateau. Views of the higher Carneddau ridge to the west, Craig Eigiau to the south, Tal y Fan to the north and the Conwy valley to the east can be seen. It is a UK listed Nuttall. Note: As far as I can make out that bit of rock is where the high point is. Checked by gps.

I bet there is a nice view from here on a nice day but alas for us today it was not to be! Pity as it looks a great spot with its stone built trig point.
