Access via the bridge over the A4 will be closed until September 2025. As a replacement, the forest path from Offermannstraße has been opened to cars.

The pit we encounter here, Pioneer Training Pool 1, is the oldest. From it, building materials were extracted for the wall surrounding the Röttgen stud farm, the Muehlens Wall—also known as the Chinese Wall. The hiking trail partially leads over gravelly and sandy paths, which are protected as such. Therefore, the use of other materials is prohibited. Because such paths are home to unique plant communities and are extremely rare, they are protected.
