This natural site owes its nickname Mini Trolltunga to its rocky platform that juts out into the void. You reach this magnificent viewpoint through the woods, and suddenly you see this platform opening up before you. Probably the best viewpoint in the area if you want to see a broad overview of the surrounding nature.

Beautiful views, and you can also climb there. When I was there, two Norwegians were climbing the wall below the viewpoint.

Geitfjellet is a superb objective for a hike from Trondheim. At 1,365 feet (416 m) it provides excellent views across Trondheim's bay and beyond.

This is a classic open cabin that's maintained on a voluntary basis. It's not known exactly when it was built, or who by, but it's thought to date back to around 1900.

A hike around beautiful Lianvatnet takes around 40 minutes and is easily accessed from Trondheim. The Lian station, the terminus of the Gråkallbanen Line, is a great place to start your hike. Neighbouring Haukvatnet is another good option for a scenic lake hike.

Lianvatnet is on the very eastern fringes of Bymarka, not too far from the city. Its grassy surroundings are great for a picnic, while the lake is a popular fishing spot, though you'll need a license. A loop of the lake takes around 40 minutes.

This trail leads to the superb views across the Trondheim Fjord from St. Olavsspranget. Along the way, you can expect rich flora and fauna.

Holstdammen is a lovely little lake in the north of the Bymarka region. It's not far from here to the excellent fjord viewpoint at St. Olavsspranget.
