The Upper Gate in Waldshut-Tiengen is an impressive historic city gate dating back to the 13th century. From here, you have a magnificent view of the city and the Rhine. The gate is located directly on Kaiserstraße and is easily accessible by bike.

Easily accessible, even from the nearby bus stop or the parking areas at Viehmarktplatz. The menu includes Italian dishes, Mexican tostadas, vegetarian dishes, and refreshing ice cream. The homemade cocktails and the Saltimbocca alla Romana are highly recommended. Opening daily (except Tuesday) makes the restaurant a flexible stop for cyclists exploring the Upper Rhine.

The lower gate of Waldshut is also called the Baslertor. It is the western city gate with romantic elements. In the tower is a death bell from 1689. Cannonballs from the Swiss siege of 1468 are on the way out of town. The weather vane is in the form of a Waldshuter Männle.

The "Lower Gate," also known as the "Basel Gate," was severely damaged during the siege of 1468. Only the lower section and the north wall of the older building remain. Over the years, the "Lower Gate" underwent several structural changes. In 1690, a gable roof replaced the former hipped roof. In 1864, the early modern tower clock was given an iron clock face. In 1920, the original entrance, which led to the first floor via a covered staircase, was relocated to the gate passage. The notches of the drawbridge can still be seen on the outside of the gate today. Also in front of the gate stands the "Stone Bachelor," a sculpture by Guta von Freydorf. It has symbolically guarded the "Lower Gate" since 1989 and commemorates Waldshut's history, when the Association of Bachelors successfully repelled the Swiss siege in 1468. Before he got his place in front of the “Lower Gate”, he stood for a long time on the Waldshuter Bahn
